Green Door Project 2013

Green Door is a four year project which is funded by the Lottery’s Reaching Communities fund, with some top-up funding from Stoke-on-Trent City Council and NHS Stoke. The project aims to encourage older and disabled people to make more use of green spaces in Stoke-on-Trent for the benefit of their physical and mental wellbeing.

Green Door will be providing a huge range of activities throughout the city, such as:

  • Adult learning and wellbeing opportunities
  • Guided walks
  • Sensory walks
  • Themed walks (such as bat walks and nature-spotting)
  • Adapted cycle hire

We will also be holding four annual wellbeing events in various locations around the city.

The project will be guided and managed by the community, in the form of the Community Steering Group and the Project Management Group. At the end of the project’s four year funded life, the cycle hire facility will be handed over to be run as a community enterprise.

Additionally, we aim to act as a hub for information about similar activities in the city provided by other organisations. We know that there is a lot going on in the city, but that people often find it hard to know where to go for information. We hope that we can encourage take-up of these activities by providing a “one stop shop” for information.

The adult learning and wellbeing opportunities programme begins in February.
